My kid’s always been introverted and shy.  Once she’s comfortable with her surroundings and people, she’s unstoppable but getting her there doesn’t come naturally.  3 minutes to unload She’s determined that this is a strength of hers, not a weakness and she’s designed her life to work in the ways that work for her.  I admire so much how she doesn’t rank it as good or bad, instead she embraces who she is and rolls with it with grace and a fierce determination.  ( check out the article she wrote about living as an introvert HERE )

As we dragged her stuff up to her new dorm and met her roommates and engaged in all this newness, I was stunned by how she was managing it all… she had a sturdiness about her that blew me away.dorm

I asked her and she said; “Dad, do you remember that movie, “We bought a zoo”, and the line about how all you have to do is have twenty seconds of insane courage?  Ever since I saw that, I realized everything is possible now becuase I can do anything twenty seconds.”

“You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”  ~ Benjamin Mee “We Bought a Zoo”
