Buddha used the word “Dhammasanvega” which basically means, rather than crying over the person or situation, you embrace the situation as it is. I think this must be what the first responders all do—somehow they immediately set themselves aside, embrace what is… and go into selfless action.

I imagine myself and a world where I embrace what is, act selflessly and love/serve a whole lot more. This is my commitment to myself and to you.

I’m sad for the sadness of this 9/11 anniversary and happy for the inevitable awakening that always follows such grief, the awakening we’re all a part of.

May our collective grief shape us into more and more and more and more.
